Free bingo games are being planned to take people's minds off Friday the 13th and predictions of an impending apocalypse.
Next week will see the premiere of Hollywood blockbuster 2012, which features John Cusack, Woody Harrelson and "a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world".
The film takes its cue from the old Mayan empire and specifically the fact that their calendar ends on December 21st 2012.
Whether or not you believe the future was mapped out by an extinct civilisation, one thing's certain - there's sure to be plenty of doom and gloom on Friday the 13th.
Free bingo is the answer
As an antidote to all this, the York Press reports that local artist Rory Motion has organised some music and free bingo at The Winning Post in York "to lure people away from the premiere and give an alternative, optimistic vision of the future".
Rory's band The Travelling Libraries will be playing live on the night, while he'll also be taking on the mantle of bingo caller.
It's by no means the entertainer's first brush with bingo - he used to work professionally as a bingo caller at the De Grey Rooms in York.
And he explained that the free bingo game session will feature "absolutely believable prizes" and a rather unusual theme of 'non-erotic bingo'.
"It's very similar to normal bingo except less erotic," he said. "The question is how do you make bingo less erotic? Basically, you'll have to come on the evening to find out how I manage that."
Bingo fans who believe everything's written in the stars may be interested to hear about the recent publication of some bingo horoscopes.
The light-hearted study suggested that Taureans won the most online bingo games while Cancerians took the most risks.
