Free bingo is a hit at policing event

Free bingo brings community together
Free bingo has long been recognised as a great way to draw together different parts of the community.
For example, leading UK online gaming site BOGOF Bingo has made a name for itself by introducing young adults to the thrills of the nation's favourite pastime.
And right at the end of last year, we reported on a heart-warming community project in West Yorkshire, where 100 elderly citizens got to play free bingo thanks to tireless behind-the-scenes work from students at Woodkirk High School.
Policing team makes the most of free bingo
Now it seems that the boys in blue are also waking up to the enduring appeal of free bingo.
Over in Derbyshire, officers belonging to the Smalley, Mapperley and Shipley safer neighbourhood policing team decided to organise a community event recently.
So they booked a two-hour slot at the Orchard community centre in Horsley Woodhouse, not far from Ilkeston, on Monday, February 15th 2010, reports the Nottingham Evening Post.
And free bingo games played a central role on the day - along with a number of other fun activities and copious amounts of complimentary food and drinks.
Free bingo event is a roaring success
It proved to be a resounding success as residents flocked to the community centre from all across the local area.
Some came to question and get advice from representatives of Amber Valley Housing and the Derbyshire constabulary.
But others simply went along to play free bingo games and chat to recent arrivals in the community.
If nothing else, the Orchard community centre event just goes to show that free bingo is still a great way to get people talking to one another.
