A change in the current national smoking ban may make it legal for people to smoke in bingo clubs. There has been an increase in the amount of bingo club closures since the ban was introduced in 2007. Indeed, 130 bingo clubs have reportedly closed their doors during this time. This comes in addition to the 2,365 pubs which ceased trading in the UK last year. A full review could come with the arrival of a new government.

Some people will go to the ends of the earth to make sure they can still play bingo. Indeed, free bingo fans may have some sympathy for the 16 protestors in the US who were arrested after protesting the seizure of bingo machines from a bingo hall in Alabama. The Greenetrack hall where they were removed from is facing closure with 400 employees losing their jobs. Among those arrested was Democratic State Senator Bobby Singleton.

If you want to bring a community together, free bingo is the answer. The latest in a long line of organisations to realise this is the Smalley, Mapperley and Shipley safer neighbourhood policing team. They staged a community event in Ilkeston to encourage interaction with the Derbyshire constabulary and Amber Valley Housing. But it was the invitation to play free bingo that proved too tempting to resist for many local residents. Needless to say, the event was a resounding success.
Gay Bingo winds up at ICA

There will be no more Gay Bingo at the Institute of Contemporary Arts after this weekend. The iconic residency will be going out with a bang on Saturday, February 6th 2010. Compere Jonny Woo, DJ John Sizzle and free bingo caller Ma Butcher are all on the bill for one last time, while players will be treated to a mix of dancing, dressing up and drinking cocktails. If you want to say farewell to Gay Bingo at the ICA, be sure to get there early.
Gary Barlow throws showbiz bingo party

Gary Barlow wanted his wedding anniversary to be a little bit special. So he hit upon the idea of throwing a free bingo party for all his showbiz friends in a swish London hotel. Believe it or not, the former Take That singer even tried his hand at bingo calling. And the night went down a storm with A-listers like Chris Moyles, Alesha Dixon and Fearne Cotton. Cheryl Cole even managed to get a full house.
Santa wows Christmas party

A Christmas party was livened up when a certain Father Christmas made a brief appearance. Santa swapped jokes and pulled a few crackers in West Yorkshire before the guests settled down to some free bingo action. More than 100 people from social care homes and clubs for the elderly showed up at the event, which was staged by students in Tingley. And a spokeswoman for Woodkirk High School said that "things just worked out perfectly".

Janet Pankhurst, 60, has recalled the moment the bingo balls and dabbers emerged from the backpacks. Fresh from her appearances on Shooting Stars, the TV presenter has revealed bingo will spearhead her return to A-list status. In a wide-ranging interview, she also talked about how professional women often struggle for acceptance in comments that are sure to strike a chord with many online bingo players.
