A change in the current national smoking ban may make it legal for people to smoke in bingo clubs. There has been an increase in the amount of bingo club closures since the ban was introduced in 2007. Indeed, 130 bingo clubs have reportedly closed their doors during this time. This comes in addition to the 2,365 pubs which ceased trading in the UK last year. A full review could come with the arrival of a new government.

Indeed, free bingo fans may have some sympathy for the 16 protestors in the US who were arrested after protesting the seizure of bingo machines from a bingo hall in Alabama. The Greenetrack hall where they were removed from is facing closure with 400 employees losing their jobs. Among those arrested was Democratic State Senator Bobby Singleton.

There will be no more Gay Bingo at the Institute of Contemporary Arts after this weekend. The iconic residency will be going out with a bang on Saturday, February 6th 2010. Compere Jonny Woo, DJ John Sizzle and free bingo caller Ma Butcher are all on the bill for one last time, while players will be treated to a mix of dancing, dressing up and drinking cocktails. If you want to say farewell to Gay Bingo at the ICA, be sure to get there early.
