'Bingo club' given a whole new meaning
Hollywood does it againHollywood has a well-deserved reputation for excess. Think of those tearful acceptance speeches at the Oscars, the overblown Hollywood Bowl amphitheatre and of course that garish sign up in the hills.
Well now you can add Cosmic Bingo to the list - part bingo game, part nightclub and set to bring a whole new meaning to the phrase 'bingo club'.
Cosmic Bingo is fast becoming a Friday night institution at the Seminole Casino in Hollywood thanks as much to the gaudy fluorescent dress code as the £60 cash prizes, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The night introduces bingo to a whole new audience as players listen for letter and number combinations over the PA while club music blares in the background.
Players who complete their bingo cards before anybody else are then encouraged to take part in a table-top dance competition, where the audience decides the overall winner.
However, if you mistakenly call out bingo when you haven't got a winning ticket, you can expect the whole club to turn around and yell 'loser'.
Cosmic Bingo brings new blood to bingo
Stephanie Karnes, a 21 year old from Aventura, is one of the bingo players taking part in Cosmic Bingo.
"This is my first time gambling ever," she revealed. "I think that this is one of the funniest things I've done club-wise and I really like the interaction."
Another convert is 21-year-old local girl Diana Ramirez. "Everyones joking and dancing around," she said. "It's different. I think that the mix of ages is interesting because you don't see it much nowadays."
One thing to bear in mind, though, is that a club night experience comes at club night prices.
While free bingo and BOGOF games are common in the UK, if you want to play Cosmic Bingo you must fork out between £3.60 and £6 for admission - not to mention fly to the US.
